Tour description

Enter the heart of the Roman Empire. This tour is a real journey back in time, you can immerse yourself in centuries of history.

Enjoy this wonderful walking tour with our local guide, to learn everything about the history of the symbol of Rome, the Colosseum. Legend has it that the name derives from a colossal statue erected for the Emperor Nero. Because before the creation of the Colosseum, in this area there was the enormous residence of the emperor Nero, known as the Domus Aurea, that he defined as: "worthy of a human being". It is difficult to understand the grandeur of this residence:  there were so many buildings that - it is said - Nero was never able to visit all the rooms of his palaces.

After Nero's death (68 AD) and after a period of instability for the Roman Empire, Vespasian came to power who inaugurated the Flavian dynasty and intended to gain popularity among Roman citizens, demonstrating that the days of Nero's tyranny and despotism were outdated. Thus the amphitheater - a public building donated by the emperor to the citizens of Rome - was erected in place of the lake of Nero's gardens, as a splendid symbol of the new political order.

This tour is an intense, exciting journey where you can contemplate the genius that took place in 70/80 AD, centuries before the advent of modern engineering. The Colosseum was once known as the most famous meeting place in the world; it is estimated that the amphitheater once hosted 50,000/80,000 spectators. Here you can breathe the atmosphere of the evocative past of a place that is also bloody. The imposing structure for very different purposes has been a symbol of glory and contempt over the years, remaining standing for almost two millennia. Just outside, the imposing Arch of Constantine awaits.

Continuing the walking tour, discover the excavated ruins of the Roman Forum archaeological site, where many structures remain intact to this day. For a city founded in 753 BC, this is no small feat. We will never know. What we do know is that Rome has gained popularity in 2,000 years and now it comes from the nickname Eternal City which fits perfectly. You can continue exploring the area on our own or return to your hotel.
