Tour description

Pompeii is today an Italian town of 24 thousand inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Naples, in the Campania region, site of the famous archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman city. As a matter of fact, 2000 years ago, Pompeii was one of the largest and most splendid cities of the Roman era. It was a lively city where men, women, children, workers, craftsmen, merchants, politicians lived until the terrible eruption of the Vesuvius, in 79 A.D., completely covered the city with volcanic ash.

The city was rediscovered at the end of the 16th century and the explorations continued systematically throughout the 19th century, right up to the most recent excavations, restorations and enhancement of the city and its exceptional heritage of architectures, sculptures, paintings and mosaics .

The archeological site of Pompeii spreads over 66 hectares, 49 of which have already been excavated. Today, what remains of the city of Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which attracts 3,5 millions of visitors every year.

With the Naples and Pompeii tour, you will be absorbed in a journey into the past, discovering a real jewel of european history.

During the tour our local guide will take you through the main points of attraction and will enlighten you with interesting stories and curiosities. You will walk around the most famous area of the archeological site, admiring beautiful remains brought back to life, such as:

  • The Large and Small theatres (Teatro grande e Teatro piccolo)
  • the Quadriporticus of Gladiators
  • the Pompeii Forum, the public heart of the ancient city
  • the Sanctuary of Apollo, one of the oldest places of worship in Pompeii
  • the Temple of Jupiter, which dominates the north side of the Forum, and behind it scenically rises the imposing Mount Vesuvius
  • the main street of the city, Via dell’Abbondanza, with the original flooring called “basolato”
  • the Stabian Baths, the oldest thermal area we know in the Roman world.

These are only some of the attractions you are going to admire with the Naples and Pompeii tour.
