Tour description

Florence is the cradle of the Renaissance period, where you breathe art in its Medieval streets, the craftsmen’ workshops and the Renaissance Palaces. Here, the memories of the Medici family are linked with the splendor of the art works of renowned artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Botticelli.

Leaving Rome and crossing the green valley of the Tiber, you pass the slopes of the Apennines, covered with olive groves and vineyards, to reach the famous area of Chianti valley, before finally arriving in Florence, built on the banks of the river Arno. The city tour will start with a visit to the Gallery of the Academy, where you will admire the magnificent David by Michelangelo, considered a masterpiece of world sculpture, and one of the emblems of the Renaissance as well as a symbol of Florence and Italy.

You will continue walking to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its beautiful decoration with local murbles and its imposing dome by Brunelleschi, so famous because it inspired Michelangelo for the construction of the dome of  St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.  Such treasures as the Baptistery, with the famous “Gate of Paradise”, and Giotto’s Bell Tower can also be admired before reaching Piazza della Signoria, the ‘heart’ of Florence.

Lunch is included, and will be served in a local restaurant, before you resume your afternoon walk. This walk takes you to Piazza Santa Croce, where the Santa Croce church is situated and where great artists like Michelangelo are buried. In this area, you will have the opportunity to visit a leather and gold workshop, in order to admire one of the typical crafts of the city and to see the work of local goldsmiths and other traditional craftsmen.

Here you can even enjoy your free time for your shopping, or visit the church by yourselves, or walking around through the city, before departure from Florence and return journey to Rome.
