Civita Bagnoregio is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and every year it is visited by thousands of thousands of people who come from all over the world to admire its timeless appearance and the magical aspect that can be perceived walking through its narrow alleys.

Perched on a hill the city is threatened by earth and soil erosion, that’s the reason why it is even called “the dying city”; to reach it you have to cross a 200-meters long bridge from the nearest hill to the gateway of the historic center. Civita Bagnoregio counts only 11 inhabitants due to the condition of structural precariousness that has emptied the country. In recent years, although several have been renovated and summer hosts foreign artists and vacationers and today Civita is experiencing a new phase of development, thanks to tourists who come every year to admire it but at the same time made it necessary to have controlled access to not damage the fragile balance of ancient structures.

The dying town is located in the center of the Valle dei Calanchi, between the two valleys called Fossato del Rio Torbido and Fossato del Rio Chiaro, which once were the access road that led from the Tiber valley to Lake Bolsena.

Access to the bridge may be subject to restrictions due to weather conditions.

After the visit of this incredible town, with our tour you will reach another beautiful place situated in the province of Terni in the Umbria region, the town Orvieto, which was built on the steep tuff rock walls. It was an important Etruscan center between the 7th and 3rd centuries B.C. Nowadays it looks like a medieval town, but a great part of the etruscan ruins is still preserved today in the undergrounds of the city.

That’s why, once you reach the local restaurant where you are going to have lunch tasting excellent dishes of the local tradition, you will have a chance to visit the underground of the same restaurant, where some etruscan’s wells and cisterns are still visible today, going down to 18 meters below street level.

During your time in Orvieto don't miss a panoramic walk through the city center, with its typical medieval narrow streets, until arriving at the famous Piazza Duomo, where you can admire the imposing Cathedral of Orvieto, the symbol of the city, considered a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture dating back to the 1300. The cathedral has always been dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

At the end of the visit to Orvieto, our bus will take you back to Rome.
